"When someone shows you who they are, believe
them."
Maya Angelou
Happy Summer!
"Summer's here and the time is right for dancing in the
street." Do you remember that from the Mama's and Papa's? Well,
some of us may, but that's okay. My take on it is because of the bright,
sunny weather during this time of the year that it makes people want to do
things fun and exciting...something for yourself even.
During the first part of the year we tend to sometimes get into it hesitantly
then suddenly time flies so fast that you barely have a chance to catch your
breath. With summer as a reminder, we can all take a moment to reflect on
our lives as well as plan ahead. What do you have planned for the rest of
the year? The rest of your lives?
With 2005 now history, we should make
plans to reach our goals of 2006. Goals don't have to be long term or
large ones. They can be short term or small ones. If drinking coffee
twice a week is all you can do instead of giving it up completely, then you have
moved closer to the ultimate goal of abstaining completely. If changing
careers is your goal, research in small goals to change over.
Don't add
stress to your life or set yourself up for defeat. With each small step, that step closer to
your goals.
I made it through 2005 without any surgeries
or hospital visits. Yeah! I have done some Feng Shui in my life and
now can concentrate on my writing and producing
career and enjoy life.
Best wishes,
Jade
A few ideas to help you through:
1 Make small goals.
Sometimes those big goals may seem intimidating to us and we get discouraged
when things don't seem to be going "our way."
2 Be realistic with goals.
If you want to lose weight, don't go for 20 pounds in a month. A few
pounds a week is a great beginning. If it is within budget, get a
trainer.
3 Looking for a new job or
career? Vision yourself with that new position, then ask yourself if you
are ready to make that change. If not, you may need to upgrade your skills
in order to make that new career happen.
4 A journal may help with
your resolutions. If you watch progress, it will encourage you to
complete the process. When things tend to sway away from the resolution,
you can see this by your journal log in and make a decision on how to get back
on track.
5 Call or email a "buddy" to
help you or talk about both your resolutions. Help one another.
6 Use the Internet.
There is a wealth of information waiting for you.
7 Try Craig's List. (www.Craigslist.com)
Jobs, housing, services, dating, etc.
8 Try LUSH. There are
stores throughout the world and also a web site. www.LUSH.com
They have a complete line of body options such as bath bombs, soaps, lotions,
facial remedies, and more. A very nice pampering for yourself.
9 Last year I began to see a
new herb doctor and it has helped me on the road to balancing my entire
being. Herb King in Santa Monica, CA is where I was referring friends and
it worked for them. After using other herbalists, I decided to try Herb
King.
Whatever it is you have going for you, don't
forget to take care of yourself. You are the only one who knows YOU
better. Have a GREAT 2006!

Too many times in our lives we do so much for
others and forget about ourselves. In the long run, it
can take a toll on your lives as it has in mine and others.
I am writing this page in the hopes of helping
women to remember to pay attention to themselves. Even if it is something
very small as enjoying a piece of chocolate, it will help you somehow.
I an open to suggestions for this page to help
women deal with stress, accomplish their goals, take better care of themselves
and any related areas in their lives.
 | Be good to yourself
 | Don't feel like you have to be Wonder
Woman with everything you do. Take a moment to stop and smell the
roses. Deadlines will always be there for us along with goals.
If we get to them then we do. If for some reason we are trying to
sacrifice taking care of ourselves to get to that deadline or goal, then we
should re-evaluate that deadline or goal. Is your physical, emotional,
mental and/or spiritual being more important than that deadline or goal?
You bet it is! |
 | A vacation is a great way to take a break
from your real world. Even a day away from home base with no
contact from the outside world can help you re-focus your mind, body, soul
for the upcoming events in life. |
|
 | Don't overstress
 | Everyone has some sort of stress in their
lives. Learn how to deal and cope with it or else it will take over
your life. A web site that helps is
www.stresstips.com.
|
 | If you need a class, then do it to help
you. Don't be embarrassed to seek or research for help with stress.
Stress can kill you. My father died of a stroke at 53 due to stress
and I know others who have come close to death while under massive stress
some of which was self-induced. |
 | Find your local Parks and Recreation
Center and take a class. Don't have time? Get a video and try a
few rounds of a new dance or exercise. |
 | Have friends over or organize a gathering
of people that you know would benefit from each other's company. Plan
a book or baking circle. Share with others who have the same interests
and daily duties. Car pool, shop for each other, pass along notes from
a class you took and more. |
|
 | Get regular doctor checkups
 | Every woman should get their yearly
checkups not only with their OBGYN, but also any other areas that need
attention. The dentist, mammogram, blood test, etc. |
 | Several years ago, I went to my OBGYN and he
suggested an MRI due to my belly protruding. We both thought it was my
fibroid tumors growing, but I was showing like that of a 7 month pregnant
woman. My uterus was pushing my other organs upward and at times I was
short of breath. The MRI test showed
Adenomyosis - a condition with no reason of
onset and no cure. Oh, great - like I really wanted to hear that. Women who have fibroid tumors have been
misdiagnosed and actually have
Adenomyosis. Since my uterus was so
large, it was not an ideal candidate for a procedure -
Uterine
Artery Embolization and that
was not an option for me. Two weeks ago I had a hysterectomy and an
ovary taken out due to a cyst growing on it. With my uterus so large,
it had stuck on to other organs. I am now without my uterus, an ovary,
appendix and my intestines had to be scraped free of the uterus. Not
what was expected, but if I had not had the surgery now it would have been
worse. |
|
 | Save for a rainy day
 | No matter what financial status you are
at, you should think of the present and future. If you have an
abundance of funds and keep spending, one day you will find that you have
none. One of my mottos is, "If I don't need it then don't get it," but
I also remember to treat myself when the opportunity arises. Start
with something small as a savings account or even the cookie jar at home.
Graduate to CDs and other forms of investments. Do you really need to
go out every week with your friends? Bring your own homemade lunch
more often. Find other ways to cut corners and save for a rainy day or
a treat. |
|
 | Treat yourself
 | Every so often you should treat yourself
to make yourself feel better to go on. All women love to be treated
well and if we don't have someone to do it for us, then we have ourselves.
Have you been tinting your own hair and wish that you could visit a salon?
Start saving for that treat. Get yourself an early birthday present.
Whatever you decide to do, don't go overboard to put yourself in the poor
house. That will only come back to haunt you. |
 | Immerse yourself in a book.
Something that makes you feel good or takes you away on a journey. |
 | I was in Phoenix a few years ago and
have always wanted to go to a spa. It was not in my budget, but I
remembered that I was getting an extra $200 for a job I just did. One
facial and herbal wrap later, I was so relaxed. Exactly what I needed
for this early Christmas and Birthday gift to myself. |
 | I now save up for a facial, massage and pedicure to
keep my skin glowing along with my daily beauty regiment. |
|
 | Smile each day & laugh
 | Smile each and everyday. Smile in front of a mirror or at your coworkers, grocery clerk
or a stranger. Studies have shown that laughter also extends your life
years and helps with stress. |
|
 | Remember life is too short
 | When I was a child I had to get into
everything and never wanted to sleep. I did this because I didn't want
to miss out on anything life had for me. I still feel this way, but it
is more personal and emotional now after the death of my brother 5 years
ago. He was 38. You can plan to do everything you can get your hands on in life,
but your relationship with loved ones should be solid. Mine with my
brother, Tony was and that was why it has taken me so long to get through
his passing. His memories will always be with me, but these days they
help me especially with my career in the film industry. I am very
proud of his 22 year
career he made for himself. |
|
 | Talk to someone
 | If you need to talk to someone, then do
it! Vent, get your thoughts out, scream, cry, and whatever it takes to
help you release what is inside of you. Don't hold things in.
Think of a tea kettle and how the steam inside is let out through a tiny
hole. If it doesn't come out it will burst. |
|
 | Don't feel sorry for yourself
 | Are things not going your way? You
don't see the light at the end of the tunnel? Whatever the
circumstances are for you, don't feel sorry for yourself. This can
eventually lead to depression, seclusion, dependency on prescription
medication, alcohol and more. There are others who would like to be in your
position. Sure, some of us would like
to have the publicity and wealth of Oprah Winfrey, but we don't. Don't
look at the negative, but accentuate the positive in yourself. |
|
 | Search out your positive
 | What are your good qualities?
Search those out and bank on them. Bring them out when you are feeling
low or things don't go your way. Use them to help as a "pick me up."
Did you just get laid off from your job? Get back out there and find
another one. If you don't get the same type of job and salary as the
one you just had, be thankful that you have that next job. There are many
others in other parts of the world that are less fortunate than we are.
We still live in a free country not matter what others say. |
|
 | All work and no play
 | You don't have to be a social butterfly
to feel good. Some type of social activity adds to your life. It
gives one a warm feeling inside from the attention and interaction with
others. |
|
 | Network
 | Make new friends. Look for other interests that
you want to venture into. Join a group to share with. Take a
trip to another city and explore. |
 | Last year, I've been going to Los Angeles more often
and meeting new people. This helps me for I work in the film
industry and need to be more visible as well as introduce myself to
others in the industry. |
|
 | Final thoughts for the day
 | Yes, I know things are easier said than
done, but try...not for others, but more for yourself. Throughout my
life I have gone through a whirlwind of events both positive and negative.
At the end of each event I have found ways to deal with life at that moment
to not fall prey the demons of dependency. I thank my belief in
God for that and strong stubborn genes. I feel events in life are to
help you grow to a higher level of life. |
 | If you don't feel this way or feel this
page is not for you, then it may not be. I just hope you find a
positive way to help you in life. If you have found ways I would be
open to your suggestions. |
Thank you for your time in reading these
thoughts and ideas.
