Did you know the Writers Guild of America, west offers a Writers Training Program designed to help new writers who traditionally have a more difficult time breaking into the entertainment industry? The primary emphasis for this program is to provide opportunities to writers in the following categories: Female, Ethnic Minority, Gay and Lesbian, Disabled, and those writers 40 years of age or older.

To qualify, a writer trainee must not have been employed as a writer under WGA contract or have sold or optioned any piece of literary material to any signatory company. If a writer meets these qualifications, he/she may pursue a position as a trainee with a signatory company. It is not necessary to be a member of the guild to apply for this program.

This is a unique opportunity to pursue a paid position on a television show while also training under WGAw standards.

For more information on the WGAw Writers Training Program, visit the WGAw website then click on "programs" then "employment access."
